Courses Statistics Report: How to Analyze Course Performance

Introduction

The Courses Statistics Report outputs a list of courses included in selected course lists and shows the number of attendances for each course during the selected date range. For lesson and external courses, attendance counts the number of started cycles. For class-type courses, attendance counts the number of people who attended any event. Whether you need to measure course popularity, track engagement, or analyze training effectiveness, this report delivers the data you need. How to Create a Custom Courses Statistics Report Template

The Report Generation tab contains predefined templates that come with your KnowledgeCity LMS, along with any custom templates you have previously created. If the default Courses Statistics template meets your needs, you can run it directly. To create a new custom template with specific fields and settings, follow the steps below.

  1. Navigate to Reports > New Report Template.

  2. From the Report type dropdown, select Courses statistics.

When you select Courses Statistics as the report type, the system automatically populates default fields, along with default template name, language, description, and title style, all of which you can customize to suit your needs.

Provide a brief description (up to 500 characters) to clarify the report's purpose

Format the report title using bold, italic, underline, font size, alignment, and title text and background color options

Toggle to add your portal logo to the report output

Default Fields in This Report

  • Course ID: Unique identifier for the course in the LMS.

  • Course Name: Official name of the course.

  • Number of attends: Number of attendances for the course. For lesson/external courses, this counts started cycles. For class-type courses, this counts people who attended any event.

  • Total: Runtime multiplied by the number of attends (total training time).

  1. Customize columns using the rows adjustment section:

    • Click Add column to include additional fields.

    • Drag and drop columns to reorder if required.

    • Click the Edit button on any column to format, style, or add conditional rules.

    • Click the Delete button to remove columns.

  1. Click Save template.

How to Generate the Courses Statistics Report

  1. Navigate to Reports > Report Generation.

  2. Locate your newly created Courses Statistics report template.

  3. Click Run report.

The Run report button opens a configuration window where you can set the following parameters before generating the report:

Choose the time zone for date calculations

Date start / Date end

Set the reporting period for course activity

Select a course list

Choose specific course list(s) to include in the report

Individually assigned courses

Toggle to include courses assigned individually to users

  1. Click Create and proceed to the Reports tab, locate your report on the top of the list and click the Download button to export.

Example Use Cases

  • Measure course popularity: Generate a report for a specific date range to see which courses have the highest number of attendances. Use this to identify popular training content and allocate resources accordingly.

  • Analyze training engagement by group: Select a specific group and course list to see attendance metrics for that department or team. This helps measure training adoption across different parts of your organization.

  • Calculate total training time: Use the Total column (Runtime × Number of attends) to understand the overall training time invested in each course during the selected period.
