Summary
Admins can manage Learning Path assignments by opening an LP and using the Assignments tab to view current users/groups, assign new ones, set start/end/due dates, and optionally notify learners.
Introduction
Learning Paths can be assigned to users or groups to guide learners through a structured set of training. This article walks LMS admins through viewing existing assignments, assigning learning paths to groups, users, or all learners, setting schedules and due dates, sending notifications, and unassigning when necessary. Admins can also bulk-update schedules or unassign LPs from users, groups, or the entire portal as needed.
Requirements
Admin access to the LMS portal with permission to manage Learning Paths and assignments.
At least one existing Learning Path created in the account.
Learners and/or groups already set up in the portal.
Steps to Follow
Step 1. View and Manage Current Assignments
Go to the Learning Path tab in your LMS portal.
Select the learning path you want to manage and click Edit.
Open the Assignments tab.
Use the subtabs to review assignments:
Groups – LPs assigned to groups
Users – LPs assigned to individual users
Assign to all – LPs globally assigned to everyone in the portal
To update schedules or remove assignments:
Select one or multiple users/groups.
Click Schedule to set or edit start/end/due dates.
Click Unassign to remove the LP from selected users/groups.
Step 2. Assign a Learning Path to Groups
Open the LP and go to Assignments → Groups.
Click Add groups.
Select one or more groups from the left panel.
(Optional) Set Start date, End date, and Due date for each selected group.
You can set dates individually or multi-select groups to apply the same dates.
(Optional) Enable Notify users if learners should receive an assignment email/notification.
Click Assign and save.
Confirm the success message and verify groups appear in the assignments list.
Step 3. Assign a Learning Path to Individual Users
Open the LP and go to Assignments → Users.
Click Add users.
Select one or more users from the left panel.
(Optional) Set Start date, End date, and Due date for each selected user.
Use multi-select to apply the same schedule to multiple users.
(Optional) Enable Notify users.
Click Assign and save.
Confirm the success message and verify users appear in the assignments list.
Step 4. Assign a Learning Path to All Users
Open the LP and go to Assignments → Assign to all.
Turn on the switch Assign this learning path to all users and groups.
In the pop-up, set:
Start date
End date
Due date
Click Assign to all.
Confirm the success message and verify global assignment is enabled.
Step 5. Update or Remove Assignments Later
Go back to Assignments for the Learning Path.
Select specific users/groups you want to change.
Choose one action:
Schedule – adjust start/end/due dates
Unassign – remove LP access from selected users/groups
Save/confirm changes and check for the success toaster.
Expected Result
After following the steps, the learning path is correctly assigned to the selected users, groups, or all portal learners. The Assignments tab shows the updated assignment list with any start/end/due dates applied, learners gain access to the learning path according to the schedule, and notifications are sent if the “Notify users” option was enabled.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
Assignments tab is missing | You may not have the required admin permissions. | Ask your LMS admin to enable Learning Path assignment access for your role. |
“Add groups” / “Add users” buttons not visible | Your role may allow viewing LPs but not assigning them. | Confirm your admin role includes assignment permissions. |
Learners can’t see the Learning Path | Confirm they are assigned under Groups, Users, or Assign to all. | If blocking prerequisites are enabled, they may need to complete earlier lists first. |
